Dawson Creek Choral Society

[pic·co·lo]

a musical instrument considerably smaller than the usual size.

mid 19th century: from Italian, small.

For aspiring young singers, the Piccolo Junior Choir provides a fun and energetic introduction to singing. Class activities include vocal techniques, music appreciation, games, rhythm, and movement. Piccolo singers also learn beginner percussion instruments and gain an introductory understanding of written music. This group performs twice per year in combined concerts with our other choirs, and in the annual Peace River South Festival of the Arts (usually mid-April). The Piccolo program is great for early learners who are hotwired for performance, and it's a prime place to start in their discovery of the performing arts.

REGISTER ANYTIME

Unless a class is full, registration is available at any time in our programs. We know that sometimes life gets busy at the start of a season. That said, it is always best to have as much time as possible in the program for the most complete experience, and to guarantee readiness for concert performances.

Additional Program Information

VOLUNTEERS

Parent volunteers are needed throughout the season and especially on concert days. Volunteer tasks include selling tickets, running concessions, or ushering. We also ask singers to help with a parade float in the summer.

CONCERT TICKETS

Singers do not need a ticket to concerts, but family and volunteers do. Usually tickets are $15 each. Ticket revenue is crucial for sustainability, as our programs rely on this revenue to keep going to the following year.

FUNDRAISING

Fundraising happens year-round for all DCCS programs. You may be asked to sell tickets or products, to provide baking or concession items, or to attend committee meetings as needed for the program.

When you register, you get password access to extra practice materials, and other ways to connect with the program while staying engaged between rehearsals. Because the Piccolo Junior Choir performs entirely by memory, we need support from families to help children be confident in their songs for performances. Materials include:

PDF Song Lyrics

Custom YouTube Playlists

Conducting Videos

Vocal Warm-Ups
