Dawson Creek Choral Society

Our members are passionate about the arts in our corner of the world, and in sharing the love and joy of music with those around us. We participate in fundraisers not just to support our own programs but also to bolster our partners and friends. We volunteer, we sing, and we work to engage the public. You don’t need to be a member of one of our programs to participate with us, and we’re always looking for volunteers to help out at various events, including the following initiatives.

Our Mission

To CREATE a culture of lifelong love for music;

to CONNECT with members, their families, and our community;

to DISCOVER our collective voices in song;

and to INSPIRE harmony in the world around us.

.... but how do we work toward that mission?

World Mental Health Day

Each year, the World Health Organization declares October 10th as World Mental Health Day. DCCS works together with mental health and wellness service providers to be a part of an all-day free event, IN UNITY. Help us promote positive mental health and healthy living in our community. Become involved as a performer, lead an activity, play games, or volunteer your time.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Our most common mode of delivery is through the human voice, and singing is something that ANYBODY can do. DCCS programs and events are inclusive and welcome safe spaces. We believe in 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, that Black and Indigenous Lives Matter, and understand that racialized minorities suffer from daily systemic and microaggressions within our society. Programs are open to people of all abilities, with efforts made by artistic staff to provide diverse learning materials. Participants don't even need to be fluent in English, as singing and music are international languages. We're committed to amplifying diverse voices while finding ways to decolonize our Western European music tradition through practice and performance.

Angel Choir Charity Sweep

We challenge our community to get creative! Individuals and groups are asked to construct an angel for a cause/charity of their choice. The choir of angels are joined together and displayed through the month of December. Their presence raises awareness of some of the many wonderful service organizations in our community, while hopefully raising a few dollars, too.

Financial Assistance Available

We get by with a little help from our friends. That's our approach to seeking sponsorships, and it's the same philosophy that we take toward program assistance. As a non-profit, we keep our program fees as low as we can while still covering costs. We know that families are struggling with cost of living now more than ever, and understand that extracurricular activities are sometimes the first things to be deprioritized. On every registration form, we provide the option for people to donate money to our internal DCCS Bursary Fund. Applicants to this internal fund are anonymously assessed by our Board of Directors, and depending on how much we have in our fund, we can help cover registration fees.

Become a Member

Membership isn't just for our program participants. By becoming a member, you become part of what the DCCS believes and aspires to. You might be a fan of what we do, a part of another performing group, or a business/organization looking to form a formal partnership with us.
