Dawson Creek Choral Society

[can·ta·bi·le]

performed in a smooth singing style.

Italian, “singable.”

Our adult choir program is a place for community members to come together through a common interest in singing. Soprano, alto, tenor, bass – we love to have any new members! The ability to read music is an asset but not required to participate in this program. The music we learn varies in terms of style, genre, and degree of difficulty, from classical to jazz and popular, from Broadway hits to traditional folk tunes. This choir sings a cappella and accompanied by piano. Prepare to stretch your musical horizons, meet new people, and become involved in helping to make our community a wonderful place to live and grow!

REGISTER ANYTIME

Unless a class is full, registration is available at any time in our programs. We know that sometimes life gets busy at the start of a season. That said, it is always best to have as much time as possible in the program for the most complete experience, and to guarantee readiness for concert performances.

Payment Options & Registration

Program enrolment fees are determined each year based on cost predictions and secured funding. We try to maintain affordability for families, while also ensuring that we can keep the doors open and our artists and teaching staff paid! Additional Program Information

VOLUNTEERS

Parent volunteers are needed throughout the season and especially on concert days. Volunteer tasks include selling tickets, running concessions, or ushering. Many of our adult members will be involved at the Board level. We appreciate the support of adult members and their families when available!

CONCERT TICKETS

Singers do not need a ticket to concerts, but family and volunteers do. Usually tickets are $15 each. Ticket revenue is crucial for sustainability, as our programs rely on this revenue to keep going to the following year.

FUNDRAISING

Fundraising happens year-round for all DCCS programs. You may be asked to sell tickets or products, to provide baking or concession items, or to attend committee meetings as needed for the program.

CHOIR FOR HIRE

Cantabile singers are invited to sing in Choir for Hire which includes voluntary extra practices and special performances out in the community. The busiest times for Choir for Hire are November and December, and occasionally during the summer.

MUSIC FOLDERS

Music folders are assigned to singers on their first day of rehearsal. These folders contain all music for the course of the year, and may be added to or subtracted from during the season. Singers are required to pay a $20 refundable deposit for their rented music folders. Click here to buy the same folder as the choir, fully customizable!

TEAM EFFORT

Choir is a dynamic team activity. Cantabile singers are expected to work to support one another within the choir setting. All singers will honour and support each other to take risks, explore new skills, and make a ton of mistakes along the way.

When you register, you get password access to extra practice materials, and other ways to connect with the program while staying engaged between rehearsals. Because the Cantabile Mixed Choir performs more difficult repertoire, and sometimes by memory, we need members to spend some time each week learning at home. Materials include:
