The Dawson Creek Choral Society honours the ancestral lands of the Sikanni, Dane-Zaa, Slavey, Cree, and Saulteau peoples, lands now known as Treaty 8 Territory. We honour the people of First Nation, Metis, Inuit, and non-status Indigenous ancestry, who, for millennia have cared for and walked these lands. DCCS works to amplify Indigenous voices while seeking to decolonize our European music traditions through practice and performance.

What a year 2025-26 was!! At last year’s AGM we were in a state of “not sure” how the coming year would play out – just that it would take shape somehow. Later that same month we signed our lease with City Furniture and began moving in, cleaning, and painting what would become this beautiful home for DCCS.
CHOIR – All four choirs started in September with the support of our beloved pianists, Aaron and Carmon, and with Tatyana taking the reins on the adult choir. Over the holiday season the choirs sang once again at the Christmas Tree Light-Up, in the concert at South Peace United, and at the Flavours 8 Christmas Brunch. This year we joined Dawson Creek Dance Co. for “Pines and Performances” at Unchagah Hall. Our January concert “DREAM” had about 100 in the audience at the Calvin Kruk Centre. The winter-spring term prepared for the Dessert Concert at the Seniors Hall, “AWAKENING” on May 3. We had about 120 people in attendance for a great concert with delicious treats baked by members.
MUSICAL THEATRE – Musical Theatre launched in the middle of October, with Imani, Tatyana, Chelsea, Aaron, and Emma making up our core team. The performances of GIANTS IN THE SKY on February 13th and 14th were inspiring, energizing, and truly reflective of the passion and skills of the 16 cast members, their wonderful parents, and the production team who delivered. It was really special having Imani lead the program, as just 10 years ago she was starting her theatre journey with us in Alice in Wonderland.
KINDERMUSIK – Kindermusik restarted in January with two age groups continuing through mid-May. It’s always such a joy to see how the children grow over the course of a term. Babies become curious toddlers, and preschoolers become school-ready in just a few short months. Some of our very first Kindermusik children from 2017-2020 are now emerging as leading performers in our youth programs.
COMMUNITY – Our work in the community included some new partnerships and continued relationship building with local service providers. In June last year we had a kids’ music tent at the Multicultural Fusion Festival. We’re part of the Building Learning Together Society and participated in the Early Years’ Health Fair this April as well as the Health Expo hosted by the South Peace Division of Family Practice.
This fall and winter we were grateful to have Stanley join us through the Work Experience Opportunities Grant from United Way BC. Stanley was instrumental in helping the year go by smoothly, with a few special projects and lots of creativity. The Board has been participating in the Many Pathways program through ArtsBC, and there has been a lot of conversation around where we’re headed and how we can define DCCS in the arts and cultural landscape of our region. We’ve laid down some strong roots and have so much to look forward to as programs and our identity as an organization continue to grow. As an organization, we’ve banked over 500 hours of volunteer time over the past year – that’s valued at over $12,500 in labour. Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and made this year happen!
Elections
Nominations are called for all Board positions. Bylaw 5.1 states that the Society must have no fewer than 3 and up to 11 Directors. Positions can be determined at a later date.
We thank Susan Klassen and Danica Spittal who are resigning from the Board of Directors. Thank you both for your years of support and service to the Dawson Creek Choral Society!

2026-27 Season Plans
This spring and summer we’ll be launching a few 5-day camps, a new flexible community event-based choir program, and a strategic planning and rebranding process. In the fall we look forward to restarting all existing programs, plus a workshop series and some additional programming that are still in the works and not quite ready to be announced!
