This magical story explores the world of Giants who live above the clouds. Ever since they left Earth a long time ago, the Giants have made a life up above where their job is to keep the sky beautiful. They polish the stars, poke the clouds to let it rain and paint the sunsets. But there is one curious Giant who wonders what life is like on Earth, so she steals a key to the locked up “beanstalk” and embarks on an adventure down below!

This program is meant for upper elementary (though we will accept a limited number of 9 year-olds) and middle school students.
SEASON
Program begins October 14th and ends February 17th
Registered families will receive confirmation of starting dates and location in early October.
REHEARSAL DAYS
Wednesdays at 6:00 to 7:30 PM (full cast), with select roles being called for small-group practices on Tuesdays 6:00 to 7:30. There will also be occasional Saturday mornings.
Wednesday rehearsals are mandatory for all students, and Wednesdays will have a set schedule for specific parts. Students cast in lead roles should expect to attend most Tuesdays. Saturday classes will be for all students as these longer daytime rehearsals will be to run through multiple scenes and transitions.
PERFORMANCES
We have TWO public performances scheduled for February 13th and 14th
The cast may be asked to do occasional extra performances to help promote the program and drive ticket sales, such as pop-up events or video reels for online marketing.
Parents/caregivers will be asked to help as volunteers both backstage and front-of-house (concession, taking tickets, etc.) during the performances.
INSTRUCTORS
The show’s Director is Imani Sandhu, with support from a fantastic team including Tatyana Dobrowolski (Music Director), Chelsea Mackay (Director of Production), Emma Hawkins, and others as time and scheduling permit
Imani Sandhu is 18 years old and thrilled to be teaching and directing this year’s children’s production of Giants in the Sky! Born and raised in Dawson Creek, and with a background in dance and music, Imani first discovered her love for musical theatre right here in this very program when it began. What started as a childhood passion quickly grew into a lifelong love for the arts.
This past June, Imani proudly graduated from high school, and she is excited to begin the next chapter of her journey by giving back to the program that inspired her. Returning as a leader feels like a full-circle moment, she now has the chance to guide younger performers through the same experiences that shaped her own creativity and confidence.
For Imani theatre is about more than just putting on a show, it’s about teamwork, self expression, and creating a space where every child is valued. She can’t wait to see her students grow, have fun, and bring this magical story to life on stage!
When you enroll in Musical Theatre, we understand that the demands of the program require a strong commitment. We’re here to support performers and their families with online practice files, social media groups, a parent committee, and licensed materials from Music Theatre International. The strong core of volunteerism in our organization ensures that the busy times are fun times when many hands make light work.
Students and their parents have the opportunity to participate in weekend prop and set workshops. In these workshop sessions, students get hands-on experience with the design side of putting together a production. Their natural creativity adds to the sense of student ownership of the finished product. If you have shop space or expertise that you could volunteer to this side of the program, we’d love to hear from you!

VOLUNTEERS
This program requires full-family support. Caregivers will be asked to contribute in a variety of ways including providing weekly classroom support, promoting the show, and performance week tasks. We also ask all members to support the DCCS as they are able to throughout the off-season.
SHOW TICKETS
Performers do not need a ticket to the shows, but family and volunteers do. Tickets will be priced at $20 each. Ticket revenue is crucial for sustainability, as our programs rely on this revenue to recover program expenses and to ensure continuation next year!
FUNDRAISING
Fundraising happens year-round for all DCCS programs. You may be asked to sell tickets or products, to provide baking or concession items, or to attend committee meetings as needed for your program and the organization as a whole. In order to keep all our programs running, we need to keep the lights on.
This program began with Disney “Alice in Wonderland JR” in 2015-16. This was our first year discovering the wealth of young talent in our community! From Alice in Wonderland to “Beauty and the Beast JR” our team was comprised of Randi Jo Torgimson (Director), Aaron Tremblay (Choreographer), and Caitlyn Triebel (Vocal/Ensemble coach). Sets, props, and costumes were a collaborative effort, with each instructor taking the lead on one of these production components. In 2019-20, we were joined by Rylee Eng for choreography. We decided to put on two shows, giving more children the opportunity to participate. “Elf JR” was performed in December 2019, with high energy and fantastic community reception! Our program was just one month away from performing “Frozen JR” when the pandemic locked everything down. Unfortunately, the kids who had been working on that production since January, were not able to experience the finished product. Many of our cast members have since aged out of the program, graduated, and began their post-secondary journeys.
Complete the following form and you’ll be added to a specific “Musical Theatre News” list. As we prepare each season, it helps to have an idea of up-and-coming students. Families on the Interest List will receive advance notice of registration dates and program availability.
